STEP 2: Choose Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Threshold. Click OK when the box appears.

STEP 3: Use the slider on the right to adjust the level of black in the photo. You want to have enough black to see your features but not so much that the photo is noisy with distracting black areas.

Save and print your photo. You may want to print it on cardstock to create a more durable stencil.

STEP 4: Use your craft knife to cut out the black areas of your features in the photo. You are not trying to achieve lots of detail. Just cut the general shape of your eyes, nose and mouth. Don’t forget your hairline, chin and maybe part of your clothes. As you are cutting, flip the cardstock over now and then to look at what the cuts look like without the distraction of the printed photo. You’ll get an idea of how the finished stencil will look.
